Overview

Cold Storage Packaging Manufactured in the USA

Cold storage packaging is corrugated packaging built to hold its strength in freezer and refrigerated environments, where ordinary boxes take on moisture, soften, and lose the stacking strength that keeps a pallet square. Rapamar manufactures freezer safe corrugated containers at our Tennessee facility, coats them with a food safe moisture barrier, and ships them manufacturer direct to cold storage warehouses, refrigerated carriers, frozen food producers, and distributors in all 50 states. Send your dimensions, your load, and your stack height, and we quote pricing, lead time, and a physical sample you can test in your own freezer before production.

The Cold Storage Problem

Why Ordinary Boxes Fail in Cold Storage

Corrugated board is made of paper fiber, and paper fiber takes on moisture. In a freezer or a refrigerated dock, that moisture comes from condensation, from humid air moving across cold product, and from the product itself. As the board absorbs it, the flutes soften, the walls give, and the stack that was square on Monday is leaning by Friday.

That is a packaging problem, not a warehouse problem. The fix is board that resists the moisture in the first place, which is how every Rapamar container is built.

What moisture does to a pallet stack over time

Moisture and Condensation

Cold product meeting warmer air puts water on and into the board. Our moisture barrier coating is there to keep that water on the surface instead of in the fiber.

Compression and Stacking

Pallet loads sitting in racking for weeks put constant downward load on the bottom layer. Heavy walled board holds that shape instead of bulging out at the corners.

Handling and Transfers

Every dock transfer, forklift move, and reload is another chance for a soft box to tear. Containers built for repeated handling stay sellable further down the chain.

The Cold Chain

Cold Chain Packaging for Every Stage of the Journey

A container built only for the freezer still has to survive the dock, the truck, and the retail case. We build for the whole chain.

Sizes and Builds

Freezer Safe Corrugated Box Sizes and Builds

Tell us the load weight, the stack height, and how long product sits in storage, and we will recommend the build. Every size is drawn to your own width, length, and height if a standard format does not fit your racking or pallet pattern.

The Process

How We Build Your Cold Storage Packaging

Four steps from your specs to your dock, run start to finish at our own Tennessee plant.

STEP 01

Send Your Conditions

Dimensions, load weight, stack height, how long product sits in storage, and how many times it gets handled. Cold chain details change the build.

STEP 02

Quote and Sample

You get pricing, lead time, and a physical sample. Put it in your own freezer and load it before you approve anything.

STEP 03

Approve and Produce

Once you sign off on the sample, your order runs at our Tennessee facility. Your die line goes on file at the same time.

STEP 04

Ship and Reorder

Your order ships nationwide. Reorders move faster because your specs stay with the people who built them.

Common Questions

Cold Storage Packaging FAQ

What is cold storage packaging?

Cold storage packaging is corrugated packaging built to hold its strength in freezer and refrigerated environments, where ordinary boxes take on moisture, soften, and lose stacking strength. Rapamar manufactures it at our Tennessee facility with a food safe moisture barrier coating and ships it to all 50 states.

Are Rapamar corrugated boxes freezer safe?

Yes. Our containers are built for cold storage, freezer environments, and repeated handling, and every one is manufactured with a food safe moisture barrier coating. That combination is why frozen dessert and frozen food businesses across the country use them.

Why do regular cardboard boxes fail in a freezer?

Corrugated board is paper fiber, and paper fiber absorbs moisture. In cold storage that moisture comes from condensation, humid air moving across cold product, and the product itself. As the board takes it on, the flutes soften and the stack starts to lean. Coated board is built to keep that moisture out of the fiber.

Do your cold storage containers need a separate liner?

In most cases no additional liner is required. Our containers are manufactured with a food safe moisture barrier coating that protects product during storage and handling.

Should I use single wall or double wall for pallet stacked cold storage?

Single wall suits retail formats, lighter loads, and shorter dwell times in storage. Double wall adds a second fluted layer for heavier pallet stacked loads and longer storage cycles. Tell us your load weight and stack height and we will recommend the build.

What sizes do you make for cold storage and logistics?

We build pint and quart formats, 1 gallon tubs, 2.5 gallon and 3 gallon bulk tubs, and fully custom shipping sizes. Standard tub formats are packed 50 per case with lids. Any size can be built to your own width, length, and height.

Can you build a custom size for our racking or pallet pattern?

Yes. Send your width, length, and height, along with your pallet pattern and stack height, and we will draw the die line to fit. We manufacture square, rectangle, octagon, and fully custom shapes.

Can I get a sample to test in our freezer before ordering?

Yes. We send a physical sample for approval before any production run, so you can load it, stack it, and put it in your own cold storage before you commit to the order.

Are your cold storage boxes food safe?

Yes. Our containers are manufactured with food safe moisture barrier coating, which is why frozen food, dairy, and frozen dessert businesses use them. We can confirm food grade specs as part of your quote.

Do you ship cold storage packaging nationwide?

Yes. We ship to all 50 states. Case orders ship via ground freight with free ground shipping on cases. Pallet orders are quoted separately based on destination and quantity.

Is there a minimum order for cold storage packaging?

Minimums depend on the size, shape, and specs of the order. Custom runs generally require higher minimums than our standard catalog. Contact us with your project details and we will confirm the minimum that applies.

How long does a cold storage packaging order take?

Quotes and physical samples turn around in days. Typical custom orders move from approved sample to shipped product in a few weeks, and larger or more complex orders may take longer. We give you a clear timeline as part of the quote.
